Its name is a combination of three local words – kempu (red), mannu (soil) and gundi (pit) – and means a place with red soil.
It is located in the Tarikere taluk of Chikkamagaluru district in Karnataka, and is famous for its scenic beauty, ornamental gardens, ancient temples and stunning mountain views.
Historical Significance
Kemmanagundi holds historical significance as it was once the summer retreat of the renowned ruler Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV, and is often referred to as Sri Krishnarajendra Hill Station in his honour.

The influence of the royal heritage is still evident in the well-preserved gardens and colonial bungalows dotting the landscape.
With its rich history and royal connection, Kemmanagundi attracts visitors from all over the world.
